Looking to buy a camcorder have a JVC Analog GRSXM730u model in mind it has great features such as digital still pictures and internal memory I dont know much about them but I want be able to upload and edit the film and pics. The salesman that I talked to at circuit city said that I'll have to by a wire that changes audio and vidio lines to usb if anyone know about this wire or were to buy one please tell me or other ways to achive this with out having to pay 100 extra dollars for this wire !!

If you got a digital camcorder, you would need to make sure it had an IEEE 1394 port on it (aka firewire or iLink). Then just connect it to your computer using a firewire cable.

Things to conisder:

1) How much money do you have? If you have the spare money for a digital camera, go ahead!

2) Are you going to be editing? A digital camera is perfect for the person that wants to edit their video digitally and send it out to family and friends. If your just going to record something and archive the tape, go analog.

3) Do you have the hardware required? If you already have a firewire card that came with your computer, you don't have to worry about spending another $75-$100 on a firewire card just to really get functionality out of your camera.

Hope this helps, I am sure there are more things to consider but these just came to my mind quickly.

BlackWob had some good points. One correction: a firewire card costs only about half of that: $30-$50 depending on the quality.

Another consideration is whether you want to use your camcorder as a webcam -- nearly all win firewire links are incompatible with webcam software. With analog, just about any capture card will be webcam friendly though.
