I have a home theater setup with a newly bought Shuttle SS51G and a Fortissimo II. I used to have A sound blaster audigy platimum. The problem is I use my theater as my speakers and the only input it has is digital optical in. When I try playing something with my computer it doesn't nothing plays even with it enabled in the control panal. Also on there site it says you can't play vid games with optical out but I did with my audigy, WTF? Could anyone help me.

Well, when you connect a receiver to your sound card via a toslink cable, you're only going to get PCM (2 channel stereo) sound. The only time you'd actually get surround sound is if you're sending out an AC-3 or DTS bitstream (which can only be achieved if you're using PowerDVD or WinDVD to send out the surround sound signal ... less some of the nForce mobos of course).

You should always get sound as long as you allow for SPDIF output from your sound card to your receiver; however, it should only be 2 channel audio. I believe that you can achieve 5.1 surround sound with this set up as long as you have a receiver cable of decoding ProLogicII.

The problem is I can't even get sound off of it! And I checked to see if its the output not the input.

do you see light at the end of the cable?

dunno... i never had to do anything (other than install drivers) to get my FII optical out to work.

oh, and go into the FII control panel->other and make sure that "main outputs" is the only one you have checked if you are not running from a dvd. if you are, select the powerdvd output.

although i have not tried it, the optical out should work just fine for games... no reason why it should not. (not to mention we would have heard about it already)
