Digital Home phone service go for it or not?

Digital home phone service using your internet for your home phone (just like vonage) is now available in my area. im telling my mom to get it because it has unlimited Canada/USA calling for only $35 per month (compared to the $7x.xx) shes spending per month. The only reason she is hesitant is because it uses the net and if the cable goes down, the phone stops working completely.

Now I know what some of you are going to say, a cell phone would be a good backup, but she doesnt have a cell phone nor does she want a cell phone, so thats out of the question.

And for those of you with digital home phone service, how do u like it?

I've had Vonage for a few years now and it's been very good. I only have issues if my cable goes out, which is not very often. I've got the Vonage box, my router, and the cable modem hooked up to a UPS though just in case. When the power did go out once my calls were forwarded to my cell, so I still had phone service. For $20/mo it's a bargain compared to the telco.
