Digital Headphones

I don't see how that would work very well. You'd need a seperate cord for power, the components to decode the audio stream, at which point, what's the point for what's a 2 channel audio solution anyhow?

Ahh. Well, you could always go with a reciever, and plug your headphones in to that, but at that price, you'd be better off buying a full soundcard. Anyhow, AFAIK, there are no digital headphones.

Digital headphones do exist (see "Digital" on that page), but they connect via USB, not SPDIF. Even without having used any, I can say with relative certainty that they're not going to work terribly well, and they're going to suck lots of CPU power due to the USB interface.

No matter what, there has to be a digital to analog converter in the mix.

10101010 by itself can't produce any sound.

So an actual "digital headphone" doesn't exist.
"Digital headphone" is more of a gimmick.

I would advise you to go over to Head-Fi for any headphone related things.
Those people are hardcore.
