Digital coaxial to 2ch RCA

A new tv i picked up only has digital Coxial for audio output. I was wondering if it was possible to use an adapter to send it to my shelf stereo, it has just a regular red/white input.

I dont' think it'd work since coaxial is digital while the regular red/white is analog. You'd need to buy a receiver that receives coaxial...all receivers now a day do.

You need a dac (digital to analog converter) between the tv and the stereo (red&white) jacks. How are you supplying the video to the tv ? It would be better for you to get the audio from the source, dvd, cable box than try to use an external dac to do the conversion.

They do make converters or DAC's with coax connections. The cheapest and easiest way to do this with out spending major $,$$$.¢¢ is to find an old external soundblaster with SPDIF input. More specialized equipment does exist but it will cost more than $300 for a cheap one.
