I am looking to buy my first digital camera.I have narrowed my search down to about three choices. The Olympus 490,The Ricoh 5300,or the more expensive Toshiba pdm70.Any input regarding battery life, picture quality, ect would be helpful.I really want the casio qv3000 with the 340meg ibm smartdrive, but at nearly a grand, thats a bit much for me.Thanks.........SD........

I was going to get a digital camera but decided not to. I did narrow it down to getting the Olympus 490z though if I was to get one. It was a good price ($376 was cheapest), took short movies, good features, and good picture quality. I read a lot of reviews and finally that one seem great. The only drawback I read was that it wasn't USB. However that can be solved because I believe Olympus is still offering a FREE usb cardreader. All you do is buy camera and send the UPC or whatever in and get the usb cardreader.

Battery life on basically all digital cameras sucks. Not having the LCD on helps but those are cool so I would usually want it on. All the reviews recommend getting some rechargeable NnMH batteries since they last a good amount of time and then can be charged at night ready for the next day.

I just bought a Canon S10 Digital Elph in November. I love that thing.. Nice and tiny... The picture quality is outstanding, IMHO. I'd reccomend that camera to anyone.

If you have that grand to spend, Sony now has a digital camera that has a mini cd burner on the back of it for storing pictures. Talk about sweet!!

Thanks everyone for the responces,I need all the help I can get.Its for my wife, the realtor.I use a ricoh xrh slr.The digital camera world is like a lot of other realms, seems like most choices are a compromise.I am looking at the toshiba -70 real hard,it has alot of good points, one bad one being proprietary batteries, which I hate.If it doesent use 2xa batts,I really dont like it,as I can find those just about anywhere. Thanks again........SD......

I think the Toshiba system has you charge the batteries in the camera That's one reason I didn't get the pdm60..that and a plastic body. Fujifilm finepix 4700 was my choice

Well I've been using an Oly 490z since August. Very happy with the camera. Lac of a USB port has never been an issue for me. It does not take that long to download a 32 MB card. Takes great pictures. The red eye reduction flash is also great for dance parties 🙂.

As long as you read all the reviews you can, and are happy with your decision, you will love your camera. I just bought myself a Canon S10 - mainly for its size and picture quality, and I absolutly love it.
