I'm looking for a basic point-and-shoot digital camera. My price range is $200-$300, but I would really really like to keep it $250 or less. Smaller cameras would be nice, but the regular compacts wouldn't be too bad if they're that much better. I'll be using this for a wide range of things: taking pictures of people, scenery (mountains, forests), and normal stuff like that.

Thanks

I got a SD 550 (a bit out of your price range) and I  it...so I'd agree with the crowd...go with the best SD you are willing to spring for.

So the SD models are the super-compact models, compared to the regular A models right? How much of an advantage is there buying an A model in the same price range?

For your reference, I got a SD200 (3.2 mp) a year ago for $199, plus a 512mb SD card for $40 the total came out to be $240...

Again this was all 1 year ago, prices are way lower now

I've got a Canon SD110 that I purchased about 2 years ago. I paid about 200 + 40 for a 256 SD card (of course price has gone down considerably). I couldn't be more satisfied with its size - it's the size of a credit card, but about 3/4" thick.

Although it's only 3.2 MP, I hardly have any use for file sizes larger than that.

Also, it is pretty durable, I have dropped it a few times and just got back from Vail where I used it almost every day. Good camera, great pics.
