Digital Cameras

My dad needs a digital camera mainly to document some houses for some real estate stuff. He's not looking to spend a lot of money here, just what he needs to get a camera good for him. He'll be doing mostly shots of the outside of houses but some inside shots of rooms and that type of stuff.

Any recommendations?

Oh, and we were looking at this TigerDirect store that just opened up around us and found an HP PhotoSmart 635 for $50 after rebates. Would that be any good? Neither of us know anything about Digital Cameras really, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

oh god i hate the HP photsmart series. I had a i think 612 and it died in a few weeks. got an A40 to replace that and was very happy. but now that i have an A80 im even more happy!

I agree with jonMEGA. We need to know what his budget is. From what I've seen, you can get a fairly decent digicam for around $130. That's not counting any "hot deals" that you might encounter. Those will probably end up being 2mp cameras. They may or may not have optical zoom for that price. You should be able to pick up a nice Canon A60 for around $150. If you want a 3mp camera, you're probably looking at around $200 for a pretty nice one such as the Canon A70. Prices generally go up from there depending on the brand, model, mp, features, etc.... One thing to mention......generally if it's not a name brand (i.e. Canon, Fuji, Olympus, Nikon, Pentax, Sony, HP, Kodak, etc...) you'll get what you pay for. You might find a nice deal on a Mustek or something but more than likely there will be a BIG difference in the quality of the camera and the quality of the pictures that the camera takes. It's generally a better idea to spend a bit more and get a good solid camera the first time rather than trying a few "cheapies" that all together will end up costing more than what a nice camera would cost.
