I was going to get one for an MP3 player but then I did a bit of research.

Turns out the microdive is not as robust as IBM would like you to think it is. Countless photographers have reported problems with the drives failing!

I don't have the link but saw a thread about it at www.mp3.com ages ago.

This was expecially relevant for me since I want to use my MP3 on my MTB and shock resistance is top priority. if photogrpahers are breaking them they must be pretty delicate!

Use at your own risk! On the other hand 340Mb is great & I'm sure it'd be RMA'd no problem if you broke it. But image losing 40 photo's you've just taken somewhere you'll never be again or something . . .

The MicroDrive is a really innovative idea, but it's simply way too expensive. What is it, like $500 or so for a 340MB card? Gee, I'd hate to lose something like that....

it's $250 online for the 340 MB. it'd be great to be able to take so many pictures...

it beats $100 (more or less) for like 64 MB of compactflash...

though sony's memory stick is in the $90s for 64 MB. but then i would be limited to sony cameras.

i really like the extra storage, and i like ibm's rep with replacing parts.

there are not a whole lot of drives with cf2 slots... brings me to canon or casio.

it think i'll go with casio, either the 2000 or 3000.

There seems to many on the bandwagon who will be incorporating the IBM microdrive in the next generation/model year products. Seems that the 340mb will be upped to a gig or so. That would be pretty sweet. If reliability could be worked out then say goodbye to stupid 8, 16, 32 meg cards.
