Are there any good digicams in the $250 range? We're on a budget so that's about as much as we want to spend. I had previously purchased a $450 Kodak 2.0 megapixel camera 3 summers ago that still works great, and I'm sure cameras like that have gone down in price.

I only know to check out CNET reviews and I see Canon, Minolta, and Olympus cameras in the range. Any of them good? Specific models? Know any good deals (coupons, etc.) going on right now? Much appreciated.

Oh yes, 1 more requirement... must use Compact Flash (not smart media - have extra CF cards and prefer not to have to buy larger-storage SM cards). Thx.

I'll check out that review site too. I was looking at the Fuji 2600, until I noticed it was Smart Media. Oh well.. keep them coming. Thx.

Everyone already knows which digicam I'm going to recommend.

The Canon PowerShot A40 for $249 after $50 off $250 coupon.

If you're still not sure then read these reviews, they speak for themself:

As one of the few here you doesn't like the A40, I recommend the Fuji finepix 2600z or the Nikon Coolpix 2500. I know I'm getting the 2500 once I get my paycheck.

Also, if you're willing to spend a little more, get the Canon S200.

Ok, I think I've narrowed it down to the Canon A40 or the Nikon Coolpix 2500 thanks to you guys. I'll let the woman decide from here... but I'll push for the A40. :)

If you want a smaller size you could also get the canon s200 for about the same price or so...i think.

Its basically the same as my s100 which i snagged a year ago is a diabolically clever scheme. ;)

If camera size is really important to you then get the Canon S200 it's super tiny, excellent build quality but it's freakin' tiny.

Good luck finding it for $250 though, the best you'll do is around $300 shipped.

:) I've been working on finding deals for the coolpix 2500 and the s200. I can get the coolpix down to under 200. I can barely get the Canon s200 under 300. :( I really liked the metal frame and the mic for movie modes but then considering I'll be getting a bigger CF card and another battery, I'm going wih the coolpix2500.

Also, my woman chose the Coolpix out of the Coolpix2500, Canon S200, and the Sony DSC P51.

I paid $289.10 for my Canon S200, I really like the outside metal frame it seems really top notch but the digicam too freakin' small for me. So I'm selling it for $300 shipped.

Would that include any accessories, RossMAN? I haven't bought the Coolpix 2500 yet...

For a little more I'll include a BRAND NEW factory sealed 128MB Lexar CF 12x.

Hmm... How much more? I can already get a brand new S200 for 289.98 with free shipping and no tax. The card will cost me another 40 bucks through my own sources.

The Coolpix will cost me about 250 for the camera and 128meg cf card...

You crack me up with your monkey dance...

Can you tell me how you can get the Coolpix 2500 for under $200 ?! She may actually pick it over the A40 because of the way it looks.

Gimme an AIM at Kelvrick. I'll tell you how. I personally don't like the A40. I don't like the menu system and I don't like the shape and size of it.

EDIT: Given the choice, my GF liked the Nikon the best. She said it looked different. When I started talking about features to ask her which she liked more, she said too much stuff she doesn't wanna know. After I got all hesitant about choosing cams, she said get the damn nikon already!

I got a 4.2 MP Toshiba camera for $300 for Hot Deals a while back. It was a great deal.
