Digital Camera that does action shots well?

I want a camera that I can use like a regular film camera where I press the button and the picture is taken. Too often, my current digital camera will pause 2 or 3 seconds and I'll lose the picture.

What do you use, if you have such a camera? I'd rather get a small point-n-shoot if possible.

pre-focusing is your friend.

you might be able to find a digicam with a no-focus lens on it.

and of course a digital slr

Just get a camera with manual focus.
The 2-3 second delay is the auto focus doing its work.
The Canon SD300, i believe has manual focus.
That would be the smallest camera you can get that can shoot fast.

I'd personally go for the Panasonic FZ5, not too big, awesome zoom lens for sports, manual focus ring, very fast burst fire

The Fuji S5100 has an action mode, you can hold down the button and take up to 40 shots, and it will keep the last 3. I used it for a niece's soccer game and we got a few decent pics (nothing great since we were way up in the bleachers and it was indoor soccer so there was a freakin' net I had to take all the shots through).

Indeed, the Canon S2-IS gives you the option of auto or manual focus. Switch to manual, and the lag is history....

Here, check out this action shot taken with my new S2.....

OK, it really isn't an action shot, but I wanted to show it off, anyway. 😉
