It's for my parents for their 80th birthdays.. they're point and shoot kind of people, don't need fancy, but do need the best display I can find in my price range..

Something with big controls, automatic, big LCD and easy to operate.

that sounds perfect. 😛

I think they can handle most anything automatic, as long as the display is both big and good in most lighting situations. the camera itself doesn't have to be big, they're still pretty nimble, and my father is fairly good with technology (but not photography 😛 )

EDIT: oops. didn't see it's for your 80-year-old parents 😛 the SD200 is probably too small for them to handle 😛

thanks, I just bought one. I've been looking for a compact for the days I don't want to carry my DSLR

canon s1 is? probably can be found for 300 online.. iknow its a little more but its got image stabilization. 80 yr olds have the shakes no? little tiny cheap cameras are even harder to hold still.

heh.. no.. of course some do, but.. far from all of 'em. they're probably steadier than I am. 🙂

but thanks for the suggestion. I'm going to spend some time this afternoon poking around this site AStar617 suggested. 🙂

yea its 279 at amazon

the a510/520 also good and cheaper.. both under 200, oddly enough only a dollar apart at 188-189! very odd

definitely get something with a big LCD and large controls. i know that even younger folks are looking for larger cameras because of bad eyesight.

yea 2.5"-3" lcd are pretty sweet, but most cheaper (good) cams i've seen only have smaller ones. not that 1.8-2" is that small. its just that 3" is jumbo. doubt u can get one at 200bucks though
