I'm in the market for a digital camera. I've been looking at cameras in the 200-300 dollar range. Right now I have my eyes on the Canon 520/610 type cameras and the Canon SD450.

Asides from the size difference, how is the 610 different from the SD450? They both have about the same image resolution and zoom. In what situations would I want one over the other?

The A610 is the better camera. However, it lacks a little bit in portability. Decide which is more important to you and go with that one

Anyone else?

let's see:

1) The A610 has a physically larger sensor, which means that there will likely be less "noise" in the pictures produced by this camera.

2) The A610 has a little bit longer zoom, and a slightly faster lens. Again, like the larger sensor, the faster lens might help if you need to take images at higher ISO speeds.

There are also a couple other, smaller things in favor of the A 610. Over all, I would say that is the more versatile camera. About the only thing the SD450 has going for it is a larger LCD screen.

i beg to differ, the size aspect of the SD line really puts it into portability. You don't get the same w/ the A series. Every little bit counts.... however, w/ that said, it's a subjective thing. If you carry a bag aroudn all the time, it might not matter. I personally like to have something i can slip into my pockets.

Very true, but then everything's relative. I own one of the older, 4xAA-style A-series myself. I also own a Rebel XT :p
