Digital Camera question

Well today I took a plunge and bought myself a Canon S100.After recharging the battery I and turning it on I notice a green dot in the LCD screen. Now I don't remember seeing the display camera having it and was wondering if thats usual or a dead pixel.Well any help would be useful.

Some digital cameras have a couple of dead pixels in the LCD. I believe up to 3 dead pixels is an acceptable number that may not warrant replacement of the camera by the manufacturer. This also depends on where the dead pixels are on the LCD.

If you see these green spots on the playback of photos or on the printed version of the photo - this is another story. There may be something wrong with the camera's CCD.

If you bought the camera locally and cannot live with the dead pixel on the LCD - take it back to the dealer and see if he will swap for another one.

I would first take several photos at different shutter speeds and in different conditions - outside - in bright light, at dusk inside - with flash, without flash. Examine the playback on the LCD or the printed photos. Check for green spots.

Good luck with your digital camera. I've had a Nikon 950 and a Nikon 990. Digital is great - I've taken about 4,000 photos in a year and a half (deleted most of em) but the ones I kept are keepers. Film and developing costs for 4,000 photos ? Don't even want to think what that might have cost. I use my free HP930 and get some great deals on photo paper.

Here's a link for dpreview . A great sight with a forum comparable to anandtech's - but for digital camera folks.

Well on image playback I do see the green dot which is annoying.I did buy it today and have 14days to return it if it has any problems.

Just transfered the pics to my pc and the green spot is there so I guess I got a bad cam.I work over at BB's digital cam dept. for a parttime job and never seen that before.Nor have I seen dead pixels on the LCD.

You should be able to return it with no problem - the CCD is bad - sometimes, they will replace the CCD - most times they'll just swap for a new camera. Good luck with the next one.

I also have an S100 (an ixy digital actually, which is the japanese version, but they´re the same camera) and mine doesn´t have this green dot, so I guess you got a bad camera...
try to get a new one...i don´t know about u, but i like my camera very much.

best luck with yours!
