Unless you are PRINTING pictures, you should get the 2MP.
What's your budget and what 2MP/3MP digicams are you considering?
Agreed, though 3MP is still sort of low for an 8x10 - I'd try for 4MP.Originally posted by: RossMAN
If you are going to PRINT pictures I would say
2MP = suitable for 4x6
3MP = suitable for 8x10

What Ross said - unless you're printing, go 2MP - is entirely accurate. Also realize that taking a picture at your camera's highest resolution - say, 2048x1536 (3MP) and then shrinking it down to post on the Web will mean lesser detail. If you're going to take pictures with the purpose of putting them online, take your pics at ~1024x768.

something under $200. I want something that will just get the job done (taking pictures) and the quality be nice enough so I can tell whose picture I took.

I think a 2MP for $200 would be perfect for your needs and stick with a GOOD digicam.
At a quick glance here are some 2MP digicams I would recommend:
These are available at OM.com after $30 off $150 or $50 off $250 coupons
Fuji Finepix A205 for $119.98
Nikon Coolpix 2100 for $169.98
Sony DSC-P3 Cybershot 2.8 for $199.98
Here is a side-by-side comparison of the A205 vs 2100 vs P3
Also check out these Dave's Picks from Imaging-Resource.com
Hope this helps 🙂
