:| I ordered a Fuji Finepix f401 camera from Ritzcamera.com through the Amazon storefront. The shipment arrived today via UPS, but the camera was not in it- only the camera's box and manuals were inside. The packaging tape that said "If Tape is Broken, Check Contents Before Accepting" was broken, and clear packaging tape was put over it. Unfortunately, the package was just left outside my apartment, so I couldn't check it in the presence of the delivery person. I called Ritzcamera.com, and they said they will send a report to their claims department, which unfortunately won't get it until Monday.

The fact that the box was re-taped makes me think that the camera wasn't removed from the box when it was sitting outside my apartment- who the heck would take the time to open the box, take the camera, and then reseal it? IMO, it was taken out en route. Should I notify UPS as well then? Maybe even Amazon.com? Or should I deal strictly with the seller? Thanks for any help

That happened to my bike once, it wasnt missing, but the box had been ripped open and taped shut, with a few things missing... insurance covered that though.

Well give the system a chance to work, but if it starts to look bad then contest charge on CC and/or rely on Amazon.com fo "fix it," since it was through their storefront.

Let them lose it and get a refund. The f401 is a sh|tty camera.. I'd know I've got the one step up.

I'm willing to give it time, I'm just not sure what's the best avenue to go- through Ritzcamera.com or UPS.

Yeah, I'm not certain either. What a crappy thing to happen.

Yeah. Try fixing it with the dealer first, but if they won't make things right take it up with your credit card company. I think most of them offer some kind of zero liability for internet purchases. Even if your card doesn't have this, disputing the charge should work in your favor.

I've had something similar happen to me. I ordered a nice fairly expensive computer case. I received the box for that case opened and retaped. Inside was some junky peice of sh!t that sells for $20. It was also damaged no less. I called the seller (computers4sure.com) and told them what happened. They paid for the return shipping and had me send it back. After a week or so, I got the same damned case sent back to me with a note saying they would not accept me return because the case I sent was not the same as what I purchased. (the very fvcking reason I returned it) I called again and bitched about this. They had me return it again (this time at my own expense. They refused to pay this time). After a couple of weeks went by, and there was no new case sent to me, I called them again. This time they claimed again I was trying to rip them off by returning a cheaper case than what I ordered. They offered to send the cheap case back to me at my expense since they refuse to pay shipping again on it, and because it was damaged they will not refund it. Again, I go through the whole story of how I got sent the wrong item that was damaged, they pretty much blew me off.

Sh!t !! Long rambling story. Anyways, basically they screwed me and my credit card company took care of it and gave me back the credit for the case.

Also I've had mistakes before (missing stuff like you had) and after a short call to the seller, the problem was quickly resolved without any hassle.
