I connect his sucker to my computer to download pics - so I consider it computer hardware...

Anyhow, My Nikon CP 775 just started producing a red dot in the same pic in all shots. It is particularly noticable in dark shots. In addition, dark shots seem to have alot of other artifacts (i.e., red dots all over the place).

Does anyone know what may be causing this? I am hoping this will not require repair. I bought the camera in the States and am in Canada now. This means that the warranty in not applicable...

Cheers,

The red dot in the same place is a hot pixel, there are two ways to fix it: 1) use a graphics program to paint it out, 2) return the camera for repair. The red artifacts seem like the wrong ISA is set or the sensor is overheating, the colder the camera, the fewer dots. If you are taking outside shots at a long exposure the let the camera cool down to the air temperature. Warm the camera slowly and watch out for condensation.

DP Review has an excellent Nikon forum.

Many times there are firmware fixes for these problems with high-end digital cameras. You may want to check on Nikon's site for a firmware upgrade.
