Digital Camera for Europe...

I?ll be leaving for Europe on May 6th for a 24 day tour, and I am planning to take a lot of pictures. I need to get a new digital camera, but after weeks of research, I can?t make up my mind. I can only spend about $300-$500 on it (absolutely no more). I want to get the best one possible for that price, obviously, and picture quality is my main concern. I?ll be taking pictures mostly of mountains, beaches, buildings, people, monuments etc, (including night pictures). Can anyone give me a good recommendation? I?d love for it to be 28 ? 200mm (28mm wide angle being most important). I already know about the Minolta DiMAGE A1, and Canon G5. The A1 is really too much, and kind of large and complicated, and I?ve heard that the G5 has some serious issues. Anyway, any recommendations would be much appreciated!
