Digital camera drivers, did not work and they had a negative impact on SB production. :|

I had just recently gotten my hands on a digital camera and got all the misc pics I wanted. But then time came to extract the pics from the camera. So I loaded up the drivers and imediately there was problems with not being XP certified (reference was on that at the manufactures web site, but they said continue anyway).
Then teh computer would not see it at all. It only wants to install it on the printer port for some strange reason (it's a USB interface). I do a lot of troubleshooting and blah blah blah... and can not get it to work with my computer.

So finally I decide to take a break from it and I restart SoB. Imediately my production rate starts dropping like the computer got sick or something. Instead of it's healthy near 450000 cEMs/sec like it normall does, it dropped down to this.

So I checked all the running processes and there was only the usual M$ stuff running, system resources are as open as they were before... what happened to make the production go down?

F*ck it. I just threw that digital camera in the trash :D.
But there was many a good pictures on there :(.

I am doing misc back-ups right now and am going to format my hard drive and reinstall XP :|. The amount of cEM's I lost on the rig was far too much. As of right now, my P4 1.6GHz @ 2.13GHz (Williamette with only 256k of cache) is out producing this current rig. (2.53GHz @ 3.23GHz)

That camera was a freebie anyway.

If your using Win XP you don't need to install drivers for the camera. Just plug the camera in and XP should automatically detect it and ask If you want to download your pics to your My Pics folder.

Trying to or installing drivers other then whats allready there just screws things up.Boot to safe mode, uninstall the driver you just put in and reboot to normal mode and you should be good to go. If not do system restore just prior to the driver install.

I tried that at first (just plugging it in). But it did not work. So I downloaded their drivers from the web sight and those did not work either. Thats when I noticed the huge drop in my SoB.
After trying futilely to get it to work, it just would not (Although it did on a Win98 machine just fine

.).

After uninstalling all the drivers and tweaks and what not, my SoB production just would not go back up. And the computer felt... well... more sluggish.
Since I could not find a resolve. I seen no other choice but to format my hard drive.

Good pictures? Maybe ones with good composition, subject matter, etc., but I can assure you that none were of anything near good image quality if the camera was a "freebie" ;)

Why don't you just get a USB card reader?
If the camera was free, I am almost certain that it wouldn't have an external memory card port; it probably just has a few MB of RAM inside. :(

The camera was a freebie. While only 1.3 megapixels (low in todays standards), any higher than that and all we are seeing is the abilities on how much more it can be blown up before distortion starts.

It has no option to upgrade the memory. But on the fine setting it takes 18 pictures... being I could not download them, I do not know the size. But does that sound consistant of a 2mb or 4mb memory capacity?

Also my mother gave it to me since she has no printer or any plans to buy one. I am still sold on the idea of getting a Fuji FinePix :) Those should be clearly superior.

But when I have the funds... will I remember?

My father had a similar problem. Some digicams seem to be very strange when it comes down to the order in which they're plugged into the pc. He had to turn it to PC mode, shut it down, plug it in, start it up and only then it was recognized by XP. But he didn't need any drivers, as XP should recognize it as a changeable drive. Maybe u must mess around with the way u plug it and the order in which u proceed.

Last year Donna let me get the much acclaimed Canon A40, both the Camera and the software on the PC has been great. In fact the reason I am posting here is it may be the first item I ever try to sell online because we would like to get the new A70 that just came out that has 3 minute Video capability. The A40 takes 30 second Video clips.
