Hello.

A few months ago I acquired a Vivitar Vivicam 3615, but it refuses to co-operate with Windows 2000. When I try to transfer pictures the camera does show up as a drive; however, 3/4 of the time when transferring pictures it hangs up, reporting that there is an I/O error, or that windows can't read from the device.

WHen I try to disconnect using the 'unplug or eject hardware' icon in the taskbar, select the camera and click the 'stop' button, nothing happens.

I encounter none of these problems when using Windows ME.
I have searched for an updated driver, but the manufacturer states that
Note: Windows Me/2000/XP users do not require a driver. The camera will be automatically detected as a USB Mass Storage Device with native support offered by Windows. Your camera will appear as a hard drive when connected to your PC. (Camera must be powered on)

There has to be a better way. Does anyone have any suggestions, aside from getting a card reader?
Thanks

I got my first digitial camera in 1995 - and am now on my 6th one. It took me 5 minutes to learn that connecting the camera to the computer was not a good idea at all, and the only way to fly is with a card reader/writer.

Imation has released a new C/F reader/writer, but it also comes with modules for S/M, S/D, and M/S media. No drivers needed in XP or W2K.

I heard what you said about looking for suggestions other than getting a card reader, but I must agree with corky-g.

I do have a suggestion however, perhaps there are apdated Win2K drivers for your motherboard that will improve USB I/O.

I would first try Windows update for their automatic scan, and then the MOBO's website.

BTW, I recently picked up a card reader at MicroCenter for $15 that works with all versions of Windows.
