You cant see a thing. However, the camera still works, but w/o the LCD I cant change the settings.

Hm... does it happen to be a 3200 or 3800? If so, I may be interested in buying it from you.

The difference between Nikon and Canon is negligible. You really need to read the reviews and see what other people say about it (dpreview), and also weigh what options/features you're willing to pay for. Quality will differ from camera to camera , even within the same manufacturer. Two cameras could use the same image processor, but the quality of the lenses differ, or the internal layout creates noise. One camera might have more resolution/zoom/controls/etc... over another, but it doesn't matter if the image is uber-noisy or otherwise crap.

I've always felt that Canon glass was better than Nikon glass....but you're really only going to be able to tell the difference if you're using their pro lenses, on a DSLR, shooting a resolution chart. So often it comes down to brand loyalty. I'm a Canon Fanboy....but they really are equally good camera manufacturers.

Grrr ... cant tell whicih is better. Both are about the same price and the Nikon has better digital zoom.

All digital zoom is the full resolution picture cropped at whatever you see on the LCD. You could do that on your own if you wanted.

probably the coolpix but only because i don't like the a400, canon makes better models than that one.

Yep. You have infinite digital zoom on your PC. Digital zoom has to be one of the biggest marketing scams of all time.

But useful for the crowd of people who just take pictures then just print them directly from a printer (not that I'm one of them, but it is useful to that sort of person).

My first digital camera was Fuji. I am using a Canon now and happy with it.
