I am considering purchasing a digital camera and just began looking into specs. I was wondering how quickly digital camera technology changes? Is it like computers where it becomes obsolete in less than a year? Thanks for all your advice!

I have the Olympus C3030Z w/64MB Smartmedia.

Nice..
Has zoom lense, UNDERWATER kit! Diffusers.. etc. 32MB internal buffer, allows you to hit 1pic/sec

I think the Nikon is easier to use, both in top range.

The olympus is a bit harder to use.

Specs Bah! Just don't get one with the LCD at 8 o'clock under the viewfinder 'cause you'll be constantly wiping off the NOSEPRINTS! Ref: Kodak DC240

All I can say is buy the best you can afford and don't worry too much about being obsolete cuz it will. I've got a Kodak DC290 right now and already feel outdated by the models that's coming out. It takes excellent pix and when I print out 8x10 using online processing. OMG I couldn't believe the quality.

I have the DC290 also, it is also very nice.

Only reason I took the olympus was the 1sec/pic option...
The DC290 is pretty fast, my HP C20 1Mpxl is sooooooooo slow!

Yes, the olympus has the fastest picture recycle.

It makes a big difference when taking pictures.

It's a real pain when you have to wait for the camera to process the picture for a few seconds on other cameras.

I know from experience. Also, Olympus has some of the best picture quality. I would highly recommend them (I have used a friend's C2000Z).

The 3030 is sweet! (Wish I had that one)

The Nikon Coolpix 950 is a very good camera. I use it at works and it blows away all of the cheaper junk and is noticably better than my friends Kodak DC280. I have heard that olympus makes good cameras too, so my suggestion would be to decide on what specs you want and then get the most expensive Nikon or Olympus camera that you can find :)

Better yet, see if you can find a store that will let you try it out for a day or so, or at least has a good return policy, so that you can see how it performs for the things that YOU want to use it for :)
