I've never owned one, never researched them but now I'd like to have one.

I was looking at Sony's DCR-TRV350, looks like it has a great price and neat features like 'Night Shot'. How do you measure a camcorder's video quality?

Any suggestions?

the smaller the better. I am looking at the mini-dv JVC models. Discount coupons are a plus. I recommend purchasing the service guarantee plan.
My Sony CCD-V101 Hi-8 shot around 75, 2hr video tapes from 1992-1998 and required no more than a $5.00 head cleaning tape. Never serviced. It got wet during a vacation, so I purchased a CCD-TRV85 instead of repairing the old one. That one has shot at least 30, 2hr Hi-8 tapes from January 1999 to present, and it hasn't even required a head cleaning.

My next camera has GOT to be Digital8 in order to get these old Hi-8 tapes into digital format. Digital8 is the slickest thing Sony ever came up with. The tapes are only $4.00 each for Hi-8 and even less for standard 8mm, which Digital8 can use easily. Too bad the recording time drops to 1hr instead of 2hr for standard mode. I'm used to just shooting, and shooting, and shooting... never have to worry about the Lithium battery quitting, either.

I want one of the Sony DVD Handycams!

I was checking that one out but aren't DVD prices still pretty high? When DVDs get almost as cheap as CDs that would be a great alternative

blank dvd = about $1 (in bulk). How much are the blank tapes for camcorders?
