Digital Cable with TV Tuner Cards

I am looking at getting a TV Tuner Card and from what I've read the Leadtek seems to be the one to get. I understand that most channels below 100 you get easily because they are usually just analog signals that the card can pick up. As for the digital channels above 100, is there any way for the TV tuner to pick those up or do you need the cable box. If so is it possible to run the cable through the box and then to your card and what sort of issues does this present as far as getting everything to work properly. I imagine it would just work like the TV...leave your cards channel on 3 and change the channels at the cable box but I guess that could screw up trying to record things, which is one of my major uses for the card. If anyone has any experience or wisdom they could share it would be appreciated.

You'll need a cable box
leave your cards channel on 3 and change the channels at the cable box
