digital cable questions

i have some questions that you guys might be able to clarify.
my isp/phone company is offering digital cable, they call it DITV. it comes through the phone lines and the adsl modem.
they have 3 different dsl packages, 384k/768/1.5. i have the 768k, but they can only guarantee that the 384k speeds with the DITV(that is watching DITV and downloading).
i dont wanna give up half of the dsl bandwidth but a tech support guy told me the truth about it.
he was the same way not wanting a downgrade in dsl speed, but he told me that the DITV box will pull its 2-3 mbit bandwidth regardless if its being used or not, he said what he does @ home is he releases the IP for the DITV box and then he gets superfast DSL speed, comprable or higher than the 1.5 mbit for the 384k price. so the bandwidth that the DITV box should be using is going straight to the comp.
can this be confirmed by anyone?
thanks

so wouldn't unplugging the box achieve the same effect? Why don't you try that then run a speed test?

yeah unplug the box, release IP, turn it off etc.
those should all work, i think.
i dont have the ditv yet, i was thinking bout doing it.
but since he told me about it, im gonna sign up today and pray hes right.
😀

hmm...i haven't heard anything about digital cable through phone lines. sounds intriguing. i think i will stick to my digital cable/cable modem combo.

i live in a small small town and we dont have cable modem, or that wouldve been the way i wouldve gone in the first place.
but for being in a town this small, we have a really good isp and telco and now digital cable apparently.
