I'm sure there are alternatives, but I've always used Grip (Gtk RIPper). It's a front end to cdparanoia and the encoders of your choice.

I'm sorry, I wasn't clear I guess... I dont want to rip cd's, I want to play audio cd's without a redbook audio cable.... I want the app to play them over the ide bus.

Will XMMS do this?

i guess there is something this way in the XcdRoast pack ...

at least it does extract digital audio ...

make a search in freshmeat.net/sourceforge.net/google.com ... there must be something this way by there ...

no, xmms wont do it as far as I've seen... I've done searches, but have been unable to turn up anything, thats why I asked here... guess I will have to dig up a cd audio cable somewhere.

Thanx guys

Just discovered that xmms does do this.

Check out the AudioCD Reader (libcdread.so) input plugin.

Apparently, there's also a CD Audio Player input plugin that doesn't do digital extraction and it's not at all clear how precedence is asserted. I can tell you I played with the AudioCD Reader plugin a little, and it appears to indeed do what it claims.

I don't have a web host, but I'll email you a screenshot if you need one.

No, because it's already existing in my SuSE Linux 8.0 install. :D So it's probably a stock feature in recent xmms builds.
