I just finished a Digiorno Supreme Pizza. Yeah, I ate the whole thing...leftover pizza sucks. But the pizza, even fresh out of the oven, sucked.

This is the second time in more than a year and it tastes exactly the same. :|

I swear, the pizza has a distinct CINNAMON taste to it. No, I'm not nuts. No other pizza, frozen or fresh tastes like this.

I see no cinnamon listed in the LONG list of ingredients (Now I wish I didn't buy three of them :/ ). WTF does it taste so weird?

Anyone else notice this?

ps
I didn't buy 3 of them a year ago! I bought the 3 today; they had them on sale. Now I know why.

If I had to guess I'd say it has something to do with one of the spices in the sausage.

I used to eat a few of those but man, I stay away from microwaved stuff in general nowadays.

Some wines have a cinnamon component to them, and there's certainly no cinnamon added. Complex foods (not necessarily pizza, but there are a lot of spices, fruits/vegetables, etc.) sometimes taste like something more than their ingredients would suggest.

You might be tasting fennel seed? That's the only thing I can immediately think of that gives a similar cinnamon mouthfeel.

Umm, not saying that Digornio is an example of traditional Italian cooking, but cinammon is indeed commonly used in many italian dishes. Please remember that us americans have a tendancy to "americanize" any sort of cultural specific dishes.

I like Digiornos myself, but I have never noticed a cinnamon taste! I even LIKE cinnamon, in it's place, of course. (Baked desserts, cinnamon rolls, cinnamon toast, in chili, etc.)

Now what is gross, I got a pizza at Pizza Hut once, and it apparently had been baked in a pan previously used for Cinna-sticks (or whatever PH calls them). The sweetened cinnamon on it was just too much to stomach!

Hmm. Some interesting theories. I'm Italian and cook lots of Italian food (not homemade pizza though, obviously) and I've never used cinammon before, nor tasted it in anything.

I'll need to try one of the other types of Digiorno pizza; I have a 3-meat combo one in the freezer. The only one I've tried so far has been the Supreme with meat and veggies. Maybe the one of the veggie toppings has that weird taste? We'll see.

Take a lesson from this and don't buy DiGiorno ever again. Freschetta is much, much better. Much. Give the 2 you have left to homeless people as a bizarre form of mocking torture.

Let me report that 5 years after this thread was started, it was Googled by someone else who distinctly notices a cinnamon flavor in Digiorno's "Spinach, Mushroom, and Garlic" pizza – my wife wasn't sure, but I knew it wasn't just me! So anyway I looked at the ingredients and I believe the ingredient listed as "spice" is where the they sneak their magic in. A real catch all it seems.

Happy New Year's old thread - from the future!
[Or the past rather, if you Googled "digiorno cinnamon", years from now like me]

Yep. Fennel in the sausage combined with oregano will give a "spice" flavor that you may associate with cinnamon.

So in the entirety of the internet over a 5 year period, there are two people who taste cinnamon in a Digiorno pizza. Perhaps you are both just insane. :p

I've noticed Digiorno to have very "sweet crust". The rest of the pizza was fine, but the crust really stood out as kind of sweet to me.

I taste it every time I eat that pizza and found the turkey loaf from central market has a strong smell and taste of cinnamon. It's crazy. We should form a support group.
