Digicam replacement!

Hi guys, A couple years ago, I bought my powershot a70 and I've loved it. However, a friend of mine, after taking a picture put the camera in her pocket while the lens was still extended. Now my camera gives the error e18 and wont take any pictures. I know I could probably send this in to get fixed by cannon, but right now I'm in japan and dont have the time to wait. There for, I'm hoping you guys can help suggest a couple of suitable replacements with similar (or slightly more/better) features than my a70. I cant use any hot deals, so I'm just looking for good comparable models. Since electronics are quite a bit more expensive in Japan, I'm looking for something thats less than USD$300 average price.

Some minimum requirements/preferences:
Must not use propriatory battery (AA prefered)
at least 3 MP
At least some manual mode settings
at least 3x optical zoom
prefer compact flash based storage as I allready have 2 512 cf cards


Right now, I'm looking at the a95, but I'd like to hear your suggestions!

a520

The a95 uses CF, the 520 is only 4mp but otherwise matches everything you've said so far.

A510 and A520 are out of the question as they use SD card. Perhaps a S500? A95's very nice by the way.

I have one for sale here. My sister won it in a raffle at her work and she already has a cam. Comes with a carrying case, extra battery charger and 4 NiMH batteries, along with the original kit. Never been opened.

I was planning on putting it on the FS/T forums this week, but I'll give you first crack if you (shikhan) are interested. Let me know. For the cam with extras, I'm looking for $250 shipped.

Thanks for the offer, but I'll probably be going out tomorrow morning to Yodobashi and buying it. I feel naked without a camera in japan ><

Very nice site Psui! It ends up giving these as my top 3 choices:
Fujifilm FinePix E510
Canon PowerShot A95
Olympus CAMEDIA C C-5500 Sport Zoom

and of the 3, only the A95 uses CF, which is a nice bonus. I'm reading up reviews on these, but anyone have any personal experience (good & bad) with the three listed?
