Digicam question

I'm thinking about buying a digital camera for point and shoot use (I have two 35mm SLRs for anything serious) and was wondering what would be best for shooting 8x10s... Are 2 megapixel cameras good enough or should I opt for a 3 or higher? I had a 3 mega pixel nikon that ROCKED and produced excellent printouts on my hp photosmart 1215 but, sadly, I'm out of work and can't afford a camera in that class again.. I would ideally like to pay around $150-200 for a used one... As far as canon cameras go- is the DIGIC chip a gimmick or does it make a big difference? Also, digital zoom vs. optical.. I know optical is better but is there any camera out there with acceptable digital zoom or does all digital zoom suck? I know on my dv video camera that digital zoom looking pretty good up to like 6x or so.. is this true for digital cameras as well? thanks for any help!

2mp will probably do decent 8x10s. I make mine from 3mp images and they turn out great. Check hot deals for a Canon A70, they have been affordable lately.

Digital zoom almost always sucks. My fuji has 6x optical, 3x digital. I never go into the digital range of the zoom.

3 or 4 megapixel is your best bet for 8 x 10. and yes, the DiGIC processor makes a difference.

A70 🙂

how much of a difference?

anyone got the same picture, same exposure from the A40 and A60?
