Finally got a new DigiCam after a hassle with CompUSA.

I go to put the card into the camera, but it won't turn on. It turns on and works completely normal without the card in it using built in memory.

What gives?

Did you read the manual?

Do you have a card reader to test it out also? Maybe another camera?

it should say SD card error i would imagine
It was saying "Card read error" on my old camera, but I thought the camera was f'ed up (it had lots of other problems too)

On my new Exilim EX-S3, it won't even turn on

Why don't you bring it to a Best Buy or Circuit City... pop it into one their showroom models and see what those say. I don't think the SD card reader slot is blocked so it could be another way to find out if its broken.

How old is the SD card? Size ? Can you rma it to sony under warranty?

Did you save the box? Some good companies give lifetime warranties.. but usually its at least 1 year warranty from manufacturer. Give them a call.

Loaded up their site, and it looks like I might have trashed it by inadvertantly taking it out while the camera was still on and displaying a picture  that could have definitely happened while drunk :beer:

Get a card reader, they're good to have around anyway.

You can get an internal USB 2.0 reader for like $25.

Do a full format on it (FAT, not FAT32), see what happens.
