So newegg has a good deal on a 4mp Canon sd10 camera.

Only drawback I see from my current s230 3.2mp is that it only
has 1x optical Zoom and 5.4x Digital Zoom.

Should I be concerned about only having 1x optical zoom? Is that bad? I think my
s230 has 2x or 3x optical zoom.

I rather have a 2mp camera and a good optical zoon then the other way around, unless you like buying large media cards to hold your pics ans then spending all your time editing them on your system just to be useable.

The lens on a Digital camera is the biggest thing to look at IMO

Optical zoom = camera zoom, objects actually get BIGGER
Digital zoom = pixels, pixels, pixels!

My olympus has a 10x optical zoom, and I love it.

I would sugest something with a nice optical zoom.

That is a major drawback. Get at least 3x optical.

i agree. 3x optical is great. i just bought the canon s400- 4 MP with 3x optical zoom. digital is really useless.

if you want an SLR-type camera look into the olympus' or fuji's with 10x opticals; you can get SLR-like cameras for under 300 bucks with a 10x optical, but they're huge ass and bulky.

thanks for the replies.

I cannot understand why canon would make the camera with 1x optical zoom and sell it for $300+

I like my canon s230 but I know it has better optical then this newer model canon. so no upgrading for now.
