For some reason I'm fascinated with the idea of a mining type game with strategy elements. I like the idea of Minecraft being able to build and craft whatever you want but found it boring due to the lack of goals or challenges. Terraria was extremely addictive for me, I have't spent that much time playing a game in years. I loved the exploring, fighting, building, etc..
I'm at the point now I'd like to see a mining game with some hardcore strategy elements. Perhaps competing with an opponent to gather resources to achieve a certain goal. Or maybe finding materials to develop a society and technology advancement.
I think Dwarf Fortress is kinda close to the game I have in mind. But I can't get into the ascii graphics. Towns might be another step closer in the right direction for what I'm looking for. But I played the game early in the beta process and it left me a little cold, that was more than a year and a half ago though. It might be more playable now.
I've heard Gnomoria was good, but at the time I think it was still in early development. There was another project around called Age of Ragnarok, but I believed it got cancelled.
Any other mining games out there worth looking into?
