diffrence between core temps?

I have a Q6600 in a Antec 182 with a tr ultra-120. But there is a 10 degree diffrence between my cores 1&2 and cores 3&4. I know I need to reset the cooler, how do I tell which part is not making good contact?

Also what is the best was to orientate the ultra-120 in the case? With the wide part facing the top of the top of the case, or the back of the case?

Thanks!

Try pushing the topmost part of the heatsink flat against the CPU. Sometimes the weight of the cooler makes it lean some and loose a little contact. If the temps even out some you'll need to do something to increase mounting pressure.

Two of my cores are about 8C hotter at idle and about 5C hotter at load. My hottest cores didn't get over 60C running P95 so I'm not going to worry about it. I've already tried remounting the HSF. I'm going to chalk it up to Intel's really crappy push pin mounting system. :|

Not sure exactly, but that is why I suggested rocking it upward a little to even the pressure out. If those two cores drop in temp then you know they are on the upper part of the CPU.

One thing that hasn't been mentioned, when the thermal paste/grease was applied did you just dab the middle or was it spread out in a line? If I remember right c2d's and c2q's prefer lines.

I did re-set the heat sink and re apply the thremal paste into 2 lines. I also changed the orientation of the tr-120 so that that wide portion faces the back of the case. Now my idle temps are 35 on core 1&2 and 31 on 3&4 with load temps of 66 and 61. Are these ok temps? I am 3.6 with core voltage of 4.375
