I just got my dsl installed by earthlink/mindspring and after a couple of issues have been connected without incident. I have an SMC Barricade hardware router which is upgraded to the latest firmware. Earthlink/Mindpsring uses PPPoE connections and i set that in the barricade setup and i put my login name and password. save, then reboot the router..
I can connect to the router through its web interface but when i press the connect button it tries to connect for a couple seconds and then stops, but doesnt connect. i've checked and rechecked login and password info, it works when i have the dsl modem connected directly to my computer but not when i try to get the router to connect.
Can anybody help me?

I know this isn't exactly what you're looking for, but the best bet is to find a service provider who does regular IP, not PPPoE connections...

Try setting it up using dynamic instead of pppoe in primary setup, that might be why it worked when pc is hooked directly into the modem.

Some issues with PPPoE and router logins. I highly recommend Zyxel firewall/routers for this.

Anyhow, you may just try changing it to PPTP or just network for the login, and login using your PC. I've run into this with Frontier DSL setup - you can't put the login in the unit - you have to use the interface from the PC.
