Difficulty of installing Thermalright xp-90/120?

How difficult is it to install one of these heatsinks? They seem to be popular, at least they seem to be mentioned alot.

My system will be a socket 939 A64, my first with this processor. The instructions on the site seem less than clear, is there a better description somewhere?

Thanks,
BGC

Well, I just installed the XP-120 this week in my main rig and it would have been nice if they included a decent set of instructions. The bracket mounting is easy, simply unscrew the old bracket and screw in the new one.

But the rest of it? The piece of paper they give you is fricken' useless IMO. More like a generalization than a set of instructions. If you printed up a one page card that said basically this is roughly how these parts might fit together...you know a1 goes into c1 and d1 goes into b1 and so on and so forth....That's about as detailed as you're going to get.

That said, you really just need to use common sense take your time and don't try to force it.

isnt it like you tilt the HS down and hook the hooks on one side into the bracket...then push the HS down to the other side and use a screwdriver (ughhh.....) and put the other two hooks in the bracket ? Doesnt sound too hard to me.

But a question: After doing that...is it possible to rotate the HS slightly (see arctic silver webpage) to spread the dab of thermal grease ? Or is it fix and you cant move it left/right a few degrees after you hooked everything in ?

Ps: I still dont like the idea with the screwdriver...i guess i'll have to be careful

Yes,you can slightly move it once installed and yes again the screwdriver idea does not sound good but hey,i did it all with my fat fingers.😎
