I have been thinking about building a new rig for sometime, in fact my last machine was a P3 800 so it's been awhile. By chance I had to pick up a repaired computer for my work and left with a new Coolermaster Praetorian 730. I'm most likely going to order a Coolermaster iGreen 500W PSU.
I wasn't planning on building one at the moment but things happen. I'm looking at building a dual boot system both Windows/Linux, that I want to use for AutoCAD, Games, General use and of course learning Linux. I'm a bit unclear what to build as far CPU - Pentium/AMD or motherboard. I haven't been following too closely as I once had regarding the new technolgies, a bit confused by crossfire boards, SLI , duo Core etc..
My main and first concern would have to be stabilty. I have no desire to overclock but just want to build a robust system that will stay current for at least a little while anyways. I've never owned an AMD system but open to any suggestions. I've always regarded ASUS as the board of choice but again I've haven't been following emerging companies so I figured this forum would be a good starting point to get suggestions form more experienced users with the new equipment.
I don't really have a budget but I'm assuming or rather hoping to build something under $1500, excluding the monitor. I should mention I would like to have a board that supports gigabyte networks, firewire 800/400 if possible and room for future expansion and also would like the rig to be quiet.
I know its alot to ask to narrow it down since I have not been too restricting but any suggestions would be appreciated.
