Differnce in audio choices on DVD?

I got a concert dvd for xmas. It has audio choices of PCM Stereo and Dolby 5.1. When I choose PCM stereo the audio has this constant loud fluttering static sound in it. You can just barely hear the actual music in the background but it's out of synch with the vocals. It plays fine in 5.1 which is waht I use anyway. Just wondering what exactly is PCM and why do I get this horrible sound when playing it in this mode?

You may need to change your dvd firmware settings to properly hear the PCM stream. It's usually under digital audio or something similar, there should be an option for PCM there.

Thanks for the info. I looked under device manager/properties and I couldn't find any settings to pcm stereo. Anyone know exactly where they are?

What brand DVD player do you have? Some cheaper DVD players may not play PCM very well. Also, the PCM stream is just two channel uncompressed audio.

it's a pioneer 106 slot drive player. Never had a problem with it until now. All my other dvds and concerts play fine?????
