different UDMA modes on 2 drive RAID 0 array

I have two WD800JB drives on a Win XP software raid 0 array. one of them is UDMA mode 5 enabled, but the other refuses to be enabled past UDMA mode 2. Benchmarks are great on the mode 5 drive partition, OK on the RAID array, but suck on the secondary channel drive partition.(mode 2)
Nforce 2 400 motherboard A7N8X
2 - Western Digital 80gb "SE" drives
quality "80" cables
RAID 0 - 512kb stripes
I have a service request with benchmarks into WD, but reply could take days, in the meantime, I thought I wquld ask around. Thanks

Swap the cables and see what happens.

I did that days ago. no difference. when I swap drives on differenct channels the problem follows the drive
