Different twist, new rig won't shut down with WinXP Pro

Just built a super cheap rig for a customer.

Specs:
Amptron k7-810xlm SiS730 motherboard, everything is on-board
256MB memory
20GB Maxtor HDD
CD-ROM
WinXP Pro

When I shut it down, Start>Turn Off Computer>Turn Off, it shuts Windows down and then tells me "It is now safe to turn off your computer." I then have to manually shut it off with the power button. Also, I have to hold the power button in for about 4 seconds to shut it down instead of just pressing and releasing the button.

I have tried enabling and disabling ACPI in BIOS. There is no "Quick shut down" option in BIOS. When I installed XP, ACPI in BIOS was disabled, if that makes a difference. In Control Panel>Power Option Properties, "Power schemes" is set to "Home/Office desktop".

This is the first time I've installed XP Pro and I'm at a loss. Any suggestions?

See if you have an APM tab in the control panel / power options and check it.

John, YOUR ARE THE MAN!

Thank you. It solved my problem.

Like I posted, this is my first WinXP install and evidently that box isn't checked by default, or was it not checked by default because I had ACPI disabled in the BIOS during the XP install? I'd like to know for future reference.
