Different Speedtest results in phone and laptop

I have Nexus 5 phone with dual band i think.
I have laptop with single band network card.

Both my devices are using same connection, there both near each other.

I have tried using speedtest on both of them, different servers, same servers..

My laptop has about 20mb-25mb download speed result
My phone has only around 2mb-3mb download speed result

What can be the problem? 😕
 
Because the Wireless aspects of each of them is probably vastly different than the other.

Since you can not technically change Hardware in Tablets/Phones, you have to learn how to live with it.

nope. using wifi.

i did test again. laptop got 16mb download, on phone, it says network communication issues. both were connected to same server in speedtest.
 
I find the speed test app for android is very inaccurate. It does too short of a spurt of data to get a good measurement. I sometimes even get values higher than what my connection is, and each time I do the test it will be different.
 
Your phone will likely never match the speed on a laptop. The phone has a much smaller internal antenna and probably not as good of wifi card. Compare that to the laptop that has a much stronger card and an antenna that runs up through the lid/screen. Mobile phones weren't designed to have max wifi signal and there's really no practical need to obtain speeds higher than a few mbps anyway.

I don't get it.

Laptop has Wireless.

Phone has Wireless.

Word "Wireless" = Word "Wireless", so they "must" work the same. :colbert: - 😛 - 😵 - 😱 - 😕 - :sneaky:.

But this problem occurs only at my current wifi connection. But when i go to other places its fine.

Should I buy a repeater/wifi extender?

My iPhone 6+ when connected to our 5 Ghz AC signal will max out our 100 mbps connection, same as my desktop on cat 6 (using speedtest.net). We are about to get gigabit internet so I'm very curious to see what AC wireless can really do since theoretical max is 1.3 gbps.

If it's fine when you go to other places, there is no problem with the phone. So you can try this way.

Yeah, an iphone 6 plus with an AC chipset probably would max out a 100mbps internet. The hardware in it is quite a bit different than the OP's. If you were to actually have a full gigabit internet connection and compared the speeds on a laptop with an AC wifi card against that of your phone, results would probably be significantly different.

Again though, I fail to see the real world practical need of a phone needing to actually pull down 100mbps on wifi, so I don't see the real need in wasting countless hours trying to compare speed test results....just for the fun of it? Maybe y'all have more free time than I do I guess, I don't know? Haha.

You have given zero information on any of the network equipment that you use or its configuration.

Repeat what? from what to where when how? etc

If your phone works fine, don't worry about it.

That is a Major issue of Networking related Forums.

People would Not (or could Not) make an effort to describe their Network related Systems/Devices and there is Nothing to do short of Guessing (if it even possible).

Maybe try updating the firmware on your wireless router.

Also if you have QOS enabled in it, try disabling it to see if it has any effect on the speed.
