Different speed drives on one channel

If I have an ATA100 drive and a ATA33 drive sharing the same cable does the fast drive actually run at ATA100 or is it limited to the speed of the slower drive?

They will run at their own rated maximum speeds. Though its generally best to split the hard drives across EIDE channels for maximum performance.
