Is it possible to have a different sound source to play on headphones and speakers at the same time using only one pc ? I only have one sound card.

If you had onboard + sound card I think you could do it so long as you can choose certain programs to output on that card

I don't think so. I can only choose one source at a time.

I want to say Windows 7 might be able to do this...

If you only have one soundcard/source, then no.

Otherwise, yes.

I can do that in Vista (and I assume Win7) with one analog and one digital output.

For example, I have my analog out to my PC speakers set as Windows default for playing most audio. But I have foobar using my digital out to my HT receiver for playing music. They play simultaneously with no issues. I'm using onboard Realtek audio.

As for two analog outputs I'd guess you'd need two different sound cards.

I was under the impression that the OP wanted to play different stuff using one source.
For example, playing music in itunes and a movie in mpc with only one source.
