Different Size Ram in Abit K8V Pro Motherboard?

I was wondering, I'm using a K8V Pro motherboard, it has two slots for memory in it and they both work when i put in the same size memory into both. However if I put a 512 into one and a gig into the other, it only detects whichever chip is in slot 2. Anyone know if there is any kind of fix for this or if this is just a normal part of the motherboard or chipset.

Alright, i got it to detect both ram sticks after i updated the bios, so I now have 1.5GB of ram but the bios says it's runing at DDR200? anyone have any idea why it's saying that?
