If I were to take the multi-monitor plunge, could I use different resolutions on each monitor or am I forced to use the same resolution on all my monitors?

It depends on what type of MultiMonitor setup you are going to use and what operating system you are using.

There are 2 ways to setup a multimonitor system. One way is to use an AGP card which can drive 2 monitors directly. The second way is to add a 2nd PCI video card to your system and use that to drive the 2nd monitor. Not all PCI video cards can do this, although I believe most modern ones can.

If you are using Win98, WinME, or WinXP then you should be able to use different resolutions on different monitors no problem.

If you are using Win2000, then it gets a little complicated because AGP cards which can drive 2 monitors are not recognized properly. If you use a 2nd PCI video card, you should be able to use 2 different resolutions on the monitors. If you use an AGP card which can drive 2 monitors, you will probably have to use the same resolution on both monitors. I think the only dualhead AGP cards which can have different resolutions on different monitors in Win2000 are Matrox cards.

Hope this helps.
