different ram usage

Hi all,

I just have a question if anyone can help me with.

i am currently using the asus p5b-deluxe wifi with E6600 and 2gb corsair xms2 pc6400 C5.

i have recently (and rather happily recieved) been given 2gb corsair xms2 pc6400 C4 but i am wondering if these two different sets would be ok together. the only difference as far as i am aware being the different latency timings.

any input would be much appreciated.

There shouldn't be any problem putting them together, but all the RAM will run at whatever the slowest speed is.

Yeah, DSF is right. To use the two together, you'll have to use the slower timings, along with the higher Vdimm. Don't be surprised if you have to give your northbridge chipset more voltage, either.

yea it should work fine . the 4gigs slightly slower vs 2 gigs faster should win out , but depending on what operating system you have and what you do though, 4 gigs might not be helping any. I would tell this to someone thinking about /buying/ another 2 gigs to add to their windows xp machine, but since you were given them its a no brainer .

He doesn't say he's overclocking so no need to bump Vnb.
You will not notice a slow down.

Thanks for the input. I should have made it clear that i am using vista ultimate 64bit and that i am not looking at overclocking as i am a bit of a p***y when it comes to make voltage changes and the like. lol

Even if he's not overclocking, some boards need a little TLC in order to run properly with all four slots populated. He may not have to adjust anything, but I also wouldn't be surprised if he had to tweak the northbridge voltage a tad as myocardia said.
