Different Network?

Hey all, thanks for any help ahead of time.

Got an interesting question, My current ISP IS ATT DSL, I have the 2wire 1000HW modem. This modem contains a built in router and wireless ap. I have it currently hooked to a hub from which I run ethernet to the 3 computers in the house. I have a buddy that comes over from time to time and we run a cable to his computer as well. Now when we go to say lan together to play quake 3 or something similar, I cannot see his private lan server and he cannot see mine. When I do ipconfig and look at my ip it is 68.91.x.x -- This ip is not in my "network" as every other computer in the house starts with 172.168.x.x - which is what I have my modem set to assign.

How can I get my computer on the same page as everyone elses, any ideas?

EDIT: Problem fixed -- Set a Static IP

Also of note is that I am currently running my computer in DMZ, though I have tried having it locked down and wide open for a short period of time to test out the effects, same either way, still cant obtain a 172.x.x.x from my modems router. I've also tried my linksys switch instead of the linksys hub im using, no difference. WTF?

and your computer is on DHCP? Try an ipconfig /all instead, maybe its just not displaying all the adapters.

When you do an ipconfig /release, ipconfig /renew you still get a 68. address?

Have you tried setting a static of 172.168.x.x? Are you on the hub or wireless?

My dsl is set up as dhcp, i still obtain a 68 address on release and renew and I have not tried a static, I will. I am wired from the hub.

I just setup a static IP, its working -- also sorry the prefix was 172.16.x.x instead of x.168.x.x sorry. I am typing this post under the new settings
