Different (Multiple) Accounts in WIndows XP

Hey guys,

I have a quick question. I reinstalled Windows XP Pro on my friend's computer this past weekend. I transferred his files and bookmarks, etc. over onto the clean install. His name is David and the computer's network name is "Dave". Normally when I goto the "Documents and Settings" folder I see the following:

Administrator
All Users
David

But for some reason, I'm seeing the following:

Administrator
All Users
All Users.WINDOWS
David
David.DAVE

It's creating secondary accounts with the computer name attached on the end. When he saves something to My Documents or his Desktop, it gets placed in the "David.DAVE" folder. When I copied his bookmarks over, I had originally copied them to the "David" folder and the other one wasn't there. I only noticed this because he was asking me why he couldnt see the bookmarks and I realized that it was because there were different accounts.

Can someone explain to me why this is and what I can do to fix this. Can I just delete one? I'd prefer to delete the "David.DAVE" one, but I'd have to move his files over (no biggie), but then what user would he be signing on as? Since there's no password, the computer automatically boots into this account as if there's no other option (as if the "David" account is nothing).

Hopefully, someone can explain this to me as I had trouble Googling for an answer. Thanks in advance!!

Windows created a new directory because a "David" folder already exists (presumably the one you created when copying the files over). You should be fine deleting the "David" directory.

If you really wanted to change the path you could remove the "David" folder, rename the "David.dave" folder and than alter the profile path for his account to the new path in the registry; but I suggest against doing it unless you have a really good reason (the files can be accessed easily as it is).
