I have an entertainment center that houses my DVR, home theater system etc etc.
Unless I keep the doors open (which ruins he look of the entertainment center) it tends to run very warm in the AV cabinet and I would like to cool it down a bit.
I purchased from new egg some case fans to attach to the back to get a lil more flow thru and exhaust heat out the back.

I was wondering if it would be possible use a fanless psu to power these or would there be a better way to power them. I've seen a couple of psu's that are fanless but they are a bit pricey for just to power 2 fans.

Thanks in advance

Adding more fans to your computer will NOT help.

Switching to a fanless PSU will not only NOT help, it will make things WORSE.

What you need to do is to modify your home theater cabinetry to allow hot air to vent out so it won't be recirculated by your computer.

This has nothing to do with a computer..

I am adding fans to the back wall of the entertainment center to exhaust heat, increase airflow.
Wondering how to power them in a cabinet that doesnt have power connectors for fans.

Why not just get fans that are made to run on AC power? That way, you can connect them to a standard wall outlet/power strip and not worry about it.

I wanted a lower profile for the fans that just buying a desk fan and sticking it in the av case. I am going to use a door saw to drill 2" holes in the upper right and left corner of the cabinet. Then mount the fans blowing out thru those vent holes. That way it will draw air thru seams of door on front of cabinet and exit out top of cab.
Having some kind of small desk fan won't really do anything besides moving air around in the cabinet.

Let me say once and for all...... This isn't for a computer. There isnt a computer anywhere within 20 feet of the AV cabinet. I need to lower the temp/increase airflow in the cabinet so I don't always have to keep the doors open.

Do fanless psu produce less heat? Or are they just for noise reduction and have more/heavier HS?

I'm just raising the question of whether they are really a benefit. Of course, perhaps you want less noise. But as it will be a cabinet with the doors closed I wonder if its worth it?

How about an old PI or PII psu, say 150 watts? I wouldn't think they'd put out much heat or noise. Prolly find one for free next to a dumpster or cheap at a Thrift store.

go to radio shack and buy an ac adaptor they sell 12v, 6v or adjustable, cut their goofy connector off and hard wire the fans in parallel to the cord and you're done. Just make sure you get the wires connected right so the fans are spinning the right way before you actually solder or crimp anything. You could probabally rig something so that you could turn the fans on and off with a switch hidden on top of the enteratinment unit or behind the faschia.
