Different hsf for my 1.8a

Hey all, I have not done a whole lot with Pentium chips, so I need a reccomendation for a good hsf for the P4 1.8a. I am o'clocking it. The stock doesn;t seem to bad. It idles at about 42c and full load so far I have seen it up to about 50c. I am using ASII, will ASIII be much better? Thanks for the help.

The Alpha 8942 is a good choice but it's ~$45 with a fan. Look into the AVC Sunflower for something cheaper. If your going to replace the heatsink you might as well put some AS-3 on there while you're at it.

Are those speeds with the Stock HS/Fan with ASII or with the thermal pad?

I am seeing 45 idle and 57 load with the thermal pad.. beginning to wonder if something is wrong.

This is what I am getting with the stock hsf: 1.8a @ 133 fsb= 2.4, ram oclocked to 356(?) It is 333 ocz mem. The temps above apply to these settings.

I run my 1.8A@2.5Ghz with temp 39C-45C loaded on a quiet stock HSF
and i'll keep it that way, you can drop 4-7c with AVCsunflower probably
but you also you get a louder fan, you can get a alpha with a quiet panaflo
but it's gonna cost you $40-$50.

If your case temp is around 33C-37C than you're fine. it's usually 10-15C above case temperature.

First thing i've done when i got my retail box is take off the thermal pad, so actually
i don't know if it's better or not than my ASII. I should have tried it for a while i think.

Case temp is 34.. or that is what Winbond says for "System".

At what temp for the CPU should I begin to worry?

Well I'd keep her below 60c but don't worry about frying the p4 it's really hard seeing as intel implemented clock throttling into the cpu wich means at a certain temp (which I am unsure of) the cpu will actually underclock itself until it reaches a safe operating temperature... hope that helps ya
