I'm thinking of getting CDr that would last longer. What's the difference between gold, platinum and silver? Which is better for data storage?

Not to sure, but I think Kodak makes some "archivie quality CDR's" Not sure if it's just marketing hype however.
Also, I believe most CDR's have a shelf life of like 75 years.

Regardless, what are the odds that a CDrom created today will be readable 20 years from now, let alone 50 or more years?????

Looked on Kodak's site...didn't see much, did find this about some of their CDR's...

KODAK CD-R Digital Audio Gold
KODAK CD-R Ultima & Ultima 80
"Archival storage: Archive discs at 68-72°F (20-22°C) with 40% RH; these conditions will support a data lifetime that exceeds 100 years. "

Oh yeah, check out www.cdmediaworld.com for more info about CDR's.

Specifically, check this link..... HERE.

I can't see that it would make a huge different to be honest, I know that all the value spindles I buy are the greeny coloured ones on the burn side. I think it's more important that they are kept in a safe place, away from bright light and in a jewel case.

Regardless, what are the odds that a CDrom created today will be readable 20 years from now, let alone 50 or more years?????

The mans right...5.25" disks aren't exactly widespread anymore!
